OUR CATS

Caracal

This medium sized, powerful cat has a striking face dominated by long, tufted ears.  It can leap high to catch bird prey. Unfortunately, it is persecuted by livestock farmers because, when there is a lack of natural food, it will take livestock.

Serval

The tallest of Africa's small cats and very strikingly beautiful with long, elegant legs , it jumps amazingly high to seize its prey.

African Wild Cat

This, the ancestor of the domestic or house cat, is not a particularly shy creature.  Interbreeding with domestic cats has, however, caused a severe decline in the numbers of the pure strain but Pred-A-Tours has the real thing!  We have breeding African Wild Cats in our collection.

Small Spotted Cat (previously called the Black Footed Cat)

The Afrikaans name for this cat translates to "Anthill Tiger".  This beautiful cat is very shy and small but a ferocious killer of its prey.  We also have breeding Small Spotted Cats at Clifton Game Lodge.  Two of our small spotted cats went off to Denmark in April 2011 - read more here.

All these cats can currently be seen at Clifton Game Lodge.  We plan to expand the species to include more Karoo predators.

We offer guided tours of these cats and as much information as you would like.  Get "up close and personal" with these beautiful cats of Africa.  It will be an experience to remember that you will be unlikely to repeat.

Visiting times to the cats are best in the early mornings and late afternoons.  Summer months: 0600 to 0900 and 1700 to 1830 and winter months: 0800 to 0930 and 1600 to 1700

How you can help these cats - Support Us

Urgent requirements

  • We urgently need 2 chest freezers to help collect cat food at off site locations.

  • We have had water damage to the cat food preparation area and need to replace the counters. We would appreciate any assistance with this.

  • We are hoping to build a new, larger  serval enclosure which will include a wetland area and reeds which they love.

  • Due to the problem we are currently experiencing with snakes this summer, we urgently need to put an electric "snake deterrent" wire around our black footed cat enclosures.

On site Educational Centre

We are planning to establish an on site educational centre with dormitory style accommodation for 20 children.

The aim is to have the children here for a weekend and do walks with them as well as educational trips into the veld etc. Any assistance with repairing the building and furnishing it is required - contact us for more information.
